SF is working with the villagers to gain registration of the land, which gives legal entitlement to work and manage the land for 30 years, in the first instance. |
Deforestation is a real concern in Kachin state and communities approached Shalom (Nyein) Foundation (SF) for help on this issue.
Having no expertise in this area, SF started the Community Forestry (CF) project in partnership with ECODEV and Capacity-Building for Food Security (CBFS).
The understanding of issues and the support from the Northern Commander and ceasefire group were critical for the project to proceed in both government and KIO-controlled areas.
SF is working in conjunction with the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations to provide "food for work" to help sustain the villages in the short term before they hopefully reap the benefits of the CF project in the long term.News and Announcement
