This programme is designed to set up Peace Committees in eight regions in the country. One of the goals is for the Committees to facilitate dialogues socio-economic and and socio-cultural issues at the grassroots levels. The Peace Committees are also designed to deal with conflicts in the community and any issues arising from peace and ceasefire agreements. Peace Committee members are being trained to undertake these tasks. Peace Committees have been formed at state/regional, as well as township levels in five states namely Karen, Kachin, Kayah, Mon and Chin.
Through the Peace Committees, the Conflict Early Warning and Early Response System (CEWERS) has been installed and operationalized in the Kachin and Kayah States. |
