Already with a pool of trained and certified Trauma Therapists who were already working in the counselling networks in the different ethnic states, Shalom Foundation thought that it would focus its cyclone Nargis intervention on trauma healing.
Disaster survivors if not treated psychologically may suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD) and have difficulty functioning normally and productively in the society.
As of December 2008, Shalom Foundation’s Trauma Recovery Support Programme have done a marvelous job of reaching out to 27,939 survivors, 4,578 households in 34 villages and 4 townships in the Ayeyawaddy Division.
